Generalization of mathematical representation for tool path based on boundary representation (BREPS) data structure

    Get PDF
A generic representation of linear and curvilinear entities with embedded motion attributes is possible via the integration of a Hermite curve and dynamic of motion. A Hermite curve will form the curve, while a dynamic of motion will position the vertices on the curves with the introduction of a delta distance (Δs). A three-phase algorithm is introduced to examine the applicability of generic representation in tool-path generation. The preprocessing stage will examine the input model prior to Phase I. Phase I will extract the BReps data, and these BReps data will be used in Phase II to develop the generalized mathematical representation of the tool path. Finally, the tool path is drawn in Phase III

vehicle dynamic model–driver model system: platform to evaluate car and human responses using double lane change circuit

    Get PDF
Vehicle Dynamic Model–Driver Model (VDM-DM) system is developed to address the need to have a comprehensive system that can evaluate the performance of the car and the capability of the driver based on the planned trajectory. This is possible when VDM-DM system integrates the vehicle dynamic response with the driver model. The driver model determines the steer input from the geometrical properties of the intended path and this steer angle becomes the input for the vehicle dynamic response analysis. Finally, from the position of the car, the steer angle can be calculated. The position of the car will be then compared with the intended path and a new steer input can be determined by the driver model. Two case studies were carried out to demonstrate the application of the VDM-DM in evaluating the performance of the car and the capability of the driver using Double Lane Change (DLC) circuit. Based on the case studies, VDM-DM can be used as the tool to evaluate the performance of cars and capability of the drivers. This demonstrates that VDM-DM is capable to simulate the behavior of different drivers and hence, VDM-DM system has the potential to bring related road safety issue to the desktop

of a nation’s human resource is undeniable. In Malaysia, teaching has always been perceived as a financially secure and relatively easy job by many, resulting in mass application for entry into teacher education programmes. Many of those who aspire and opto to go into the teaching profession however do so regardless of their personal interests, potential, and values. Pursuing a program that does not fit a person’s personality and interest – despite initially having good academic credentials and excellent co-curricular involvement in school – may result in unsatisfactory academic performance, frustration, change of program and even withdrawal at college level. Hence, in the quest for selecting suitable teacher trainee candidates, a psychometrically sound instrument known as the Malaysian Educators Selection Inventory (MEdSI) was developed as a screening measure to filter the large number of teacher hopefuls. This paper specifically describes the theoretical basis and the constructs of the instrument developed

Feature research : review and future direction

    Get PDF
Feature research is the work involved in searching or identifying distinctive shape that exists on the CAD model. To a computer, this distinctive shape is just a low-level geometrical definition, which is incomprehensible to engineers, designers or process planners. To make this low-level definition more easily understandable, engineering knowledge has to be integrated to the model. This integration transforms the low-level geometrical definition of a CAD model into high-level product definition. Hence, downstream activities can be incorporated even during modeling. This paper outlines the feature technology by reviewing some of the current methodology. Lastly, it points out its future direction

    Get PDF
AUTOCAD for Engineers is intended as a guide especially for Mechanical Engineers to implement AutoCAD specifically to produce engineering drawing. It covers not only 2D drawing, but also Solid Modelling. The contents of this book are organised in three main parts which gradually introduce readers to AUTOCAD. The first part of the book focuses on selected basic commands sufficient to begin AutoCAD drawing. Having mastered the basic commands, the second part of the book introduces readers to more specific commands needed in producing more sophisticated engineering drawing. The topics that are covered include geometry, orthographic drawing, sectioning drawing, and isometric drawing. Once readers have mastered the basic and specific commands, the final part of the book will guide them through the process of implementing solid modelling in the creation of engineering drawing. AUTOCAD for Engineers can be used as a text book or a reference book for AutoCAD-based Engineering Drawing course and can complement any engineering drawing book

Automated numerical control code generation using feature definition

    Get PDF
The necessity of human in making decision creates a barrier for the development of one button Computer Aided Manufacturing system that can automate the down-stream activities. Albert (2001) suggested that the solution to this is to integrate of feature technology and process planning. In respect to this suggestion, a system that is capable to automate the numerical control (NC) Code generation is developed. In fact, this work is the extension of HiFEAT2 (Meeran et al, 1999). HiFEAT2 is feature recognition system that is able to recognize feature using generic approach for isolated, nested, and interacting features. Since the development of the system is at its initial stage, the features are limited to isolated features. In next section, the paper reviews some of the relevant literature. Then, it describes the architecture of the system with the use of illustrative example

Improving product classification through product family segregation

    Get PDF
Information sources are invaluable when taking decisions in Product design especially at the front end of the design process. Product families if properly classified, the connectivity of product form and interaction of the features assist the designer in taking good decisions. This paper addresses product classification from the design perspective with respect to Product family as reflected by the product's presence in the market. Ten different models for a product (Wheelchair) was randomly selected and recorded. The choice of the product has no specific implication other than to demonstrate the practicability of this approach. TRIZ principles were employed to perform a 3-level component segregation on each model. A matrix is thereafter drawn for the product family. The models are recorded on the horizontal axis of the matrix while their corresponding features are recorded on the vertical axis. The frequencies of the models and corresponding features are noted on the right hand side of the table. The frequencies were then taken through cluster analysis using the dendrogram on SPSS 20. The result shows the features categorized into three groups which reveals the commonality and association of the features that are Basic, Performance or Luxury according to customers' satisfaction. This approach also shows a quick method that can ease product design decision making because it is systematic and can be used to dissect and analyze products within a product family. This approach can lead to functional analysis, product design specification preparation and product development
